About this space · Read more

Apartment 2 is the largest stay at Casa Pantoja and the only one that sleeps five. It is on the upper floor and it has two balconies looking over the lagoon, which is what really sets it apart: you step out with your coffee and there is the water, without going down or walking anywhere.

It is worth understanding the layout before you book, because it is not obvious. There is one bedroom, with a double bed and a single, and the queen bed is in the living room. For a family that works well; for five adults who do not know each other, better to know in advance. There is a closet, a bathroom, a television and air conditioning in both the living room and the bedroom, so both sleeping areas are cooled.

It has a kitchen and a fridge, which makes a longer stay practical. With five people, having breakfast at home before heading to the lagoon and cooking dinner on the way back genuinely changes what the trip costs and how the day runs: nobody waits for a restaurant to open. Being the largest space it is also the first to fill on holidays and long weekends, so with fixed dates it pays to book early.

It is a minute on foot from the Xul-Há lagoon, at the southern end of the Bacalar lagoon: the same clear water as in town, at the pace of a village. You reach the apartment by stairs; if someone in your group would rather avoid steps, Ceiba, the other apartment, is on the ground floor and sleeps four. Downtown Bacalar is ten minutes away by car and Chetumal and its airport twenty.

Casa Pantoja has no direct access to the lagoon. The lagoon is approximately a one-minute walk away; two bathing facilities charge admission. Admission is not included in your stay. Check their prices and opening hours before visiting.
