Turix and Mariposa are our two ground-floor rooms, and they are the simplest way to stay at Casa Pantoja. Each is a cool room for two with air conditioning, a private bathroom and hot water. They are made for people travelling light who spend the day out, on the lagoon or heading into Bacalar, and who come back wanting nothing more than a clean, quiet place to sleep well.
Being downstairs is a practical advantage that matters more than it sounds: there is not a single step to climb. That counts when you arrive with large suitcases, with a cooler for a day on the water, with paddleboards, or when someone in your group would rather avoid stairs. They also sit a few paces from the parking and the shared areas, so unloading the car takes a minute.
The two rooms are equivalent and can be booked separately or together in the same request, which works well for two couples travelling together or a family that wants separate rooms. Each sleeps up to three: two in the queen bed and a third in a hammock, a local habit many visitors enjoy trying. If that third guest would rather have a real bed, look at Tucán or one of the apartments, which have separate bedrooms.
What settles it is not the room but where it is. The Xul-Há lagoon is a minute away on foot, at the southern end of the Bacalar lagoon: the same water, far fewer people. The property has no direct lagoon access; you must leave the accommodation to reach it. Downtown Bacalar is about ten minutes away and Chetumal about twenty, so it works just as well for a two-night break as for several quiet days by the water.
Casa Pantoja has no direct access to the lagoon. The lagoon is approximately a one-minute walk away; two bathing facilities charge admission. Admission is not included in your stay. Check their prices and opening hours before visiting.
